Goal:

The Jewish Salons is an international network that addresses Jewish identity through culture and the arts. The Salons network connects young Jews from different communities by co-producing events that
present contemporary international Jewish culture.

The Jewish Salons events offer people of all ages a framework to ask what it means to be Jewish in our daily lives, providing an alternative mindset to the one offered by the formal community institutions.

Short term (3 years pilot *)

- Creating Salon hubs in Jewish communities, led by local lay leaders, as part of a global network that connects individuals and communities.
- Fuse the local and the international Jewish contemporary art scene by utilizing the Jewish Salons Network.
- Attracting young Jews who are on the fringe of Jewish communal life/not connected at all.

- Produce 4-6 annual events localy (16-24 globaly) reflecting the young generation's mode of interest in its Jewish identity in each city
- Add one new community salon every year and gradually increase the number of events in each salon.

Long Term objectives:
- A permanent Salon venue will gradually be established in communities where these continuous events expose a need for a permanent venue of Jewish culture
- These venues will be a destination place for the local as well as the global Jewish community. They will include cafe-bar, libraries of books, films and music, and a dynamic exhibition & performance space, hosting Jewish cultural activities regularly.

Need :

The Jewish Salons address a need that is relevant to generations of young Jews (age 25-40) in all Diaspora communities world wide. Universally, young Jews of these ages experience a diminishing relevancy of Jewish institutions and express a need for non-institutional alternatives that are more pluralistic and inclusive in their approach to Jewish life and being.

Uniqueness :

Unique characteristics include:
- Inclusive approach to Jews and their non-Jewish friends
- Grassroots initiative led by local groups of young activists
- Creating a platform for a global connection while addressing local needs
- Developing a digital repository of contemporary Jewish culture
- Articulating ancient traditions through more relevant, creative modalities
- Fusing local and international Jewish culture

Project description :

The Jewish Salons is an international network that addresses Jewish identity through culture and the arts. The
Salons network connects young Jews from different communities by co-producing events that present contemporary international Jewish
culture.

The Jewish Salons vents offer people of all ages a framework to ask what it means to be Jewish in our daily lives, providing an alternative mindset to the one offered by the formal community institutions.

The network helps to facilitate local volunteer driven productions of interactive and diverse cultural happenings that explore traditional and contemporary Jewish society. The events provide an additional or alternative path to Jewish engagement in cities where informal or non-institutional programming is either limited or non-existent or where traditional modes of involvement are simply not of interest. Our mission is to assist a generation of young Jews (ages 25-45) as they venture into a new kind of dialogue with their history, identity, and affiliation through Jewish cultural subject matters, leading to a revived sense of global Jewish pride, strength and excitement.
